Sometime last year my husband and I decided that something fun to do with te older two girls would be to watch American Idol together. Our family loves music and I figured anything suggestive that came up could be a teaching moment. Anyway, one night we were sitting on the couch watching the season finale, Fergie was performing. Krystal was 7 at the time and when Fergie came out in a skin tight leather top and matching bootie shorts with 9 inch long fingernails she was surprised! She could not believe what she was wearing. Krystal leaned over and in a soft voice whispers in my ear, “Mom, I think she forgot her pants.” I stifled a laugh and I am pretty sure I snorted through my nose trying to conceal my amusement at her comment. I told her that what she was wearing was her costume for her performance. So she leaned back over to my ear and what she said made me laugh so hard I almost cried, “Well Mom, I think we should go to the store and buy her some clothes and donate them to her, so she will have something that fits, maybe she can’t afford better clothes.” You should have seen her face when I explained that Fergie is rich and that is what she chooses to wear! She learned a valuable lesson that night and has been using the word modesty ever since.
